‘Spardha’ - Annual Sports Meet 201911-Oct-2019

The UWS Annual Sports Meet ‘Spardha’ 2019 was held on 11th October, 2019. The Chief Guest for the event was Dr. Deepa Malik the first Indian woman to win a medal at the 2016 Paralympics Games. She was welcomed by Mrs. Divya Dwivedi, Principal Unison World School. The students of Grades 9 to 12 had an exclusive Interactive session with her before the commencement of ‘Spardha’. The event started with the girls passing the flame of Peace and Harmony ‘Spardha 2019 Torch’ to each other as they took turns round the well laid out tracks. The ‘March Past’ of all the athletes in their respective House colors along with the contingent of NCC students marched to the harmonious beat of the 20 Kumaon Regiment Bagpiper Band. This was followed by the pledge and the Sports Meet was declared ‘Open’. The track and field events took place amid loud cheering by the non-participating students which built up a competitive spirit amongst all the participating athletes. A Carnival of ‘Drills’ by the students of Lower and Upper School were displayed and the grounds resounded with energetic tunes as the girls performed to the beats of the Bamboo drill, Ring drill, White PT drill, Fan drill, Laseum drill, African drill and the Zumba drill. The Chief Guest gave away the prizes and trophies to the winners. The Best Athlete in the Sub-Junior Category was Molsicha Nitichakorn of Daffodil House. The Best Athlete in the Junior Category was Ziya Neelam of Daffodil House and the Best Athlete in the Senior Category was Basu Thakur of Tulip House. The Overall Sports Trophy was won by Daffodil House. Dr. Deepa Malik in her speech shared that it is very important to celebrate life. She was happy to be in Unison World School today on the occasion of the International Day for the girl child. She advised the girls to follow their dreams. The Vote of Thanks by the Sports Prefect was followed by the dousing of the ‘Spardha’ flame along with the simultaneous lowering of the school and house flags. The school flag was handed over to the Jasmine House Prefects’ mother who in turn handed it over to the Principal, Mrs. Divya Dwivedi and the Annual Sports Meet was declared ‘Closed’. The event concluded with the National Anthem being sung by the whole school and the guests moved on to the next event of the day, the ‘Carnival’-Annual Fete.
